Family quilt

I couldn't bear to throw away some of my kids' favourite clothes so i kept them for years in a bag, not knowing what to do with them. I used to do a lot of quilting and that's when it occurred to me to make a family quilt. Now i have all my children's favourite clothes sewn on to a throw rug.

Wall paint

We moved to a house where the walls were badly in need of a good paint. With young children and a lack of cash to get the job done we decided to cover the walls with our kids' art every time they brought a piece home. We had quite a few walls that need to be painted so each of my three children were given a wall that they could call their own. They were always quick to grab the Blu-Tack and put up their artwork. Now we are in no hurry to paint the walls because they are such a joy to look at.

Sports day

When i go to a sports day or school event i always yell out and say hi to my kids. Now that my son is getting older he gets a little embarrassed so we have developed a sign between us so he knows that i am thinking of him. When i see him i touch the side of my face with the palm of my hand and he does the same. He always smiles when he does it. We both know we are thinking of each other.

Sticker photo booth

Most shopping centers now have sticker photo booths. They cn be quite expensive but as a treat on my child's birthday i go and get a photo taken. I keep one for their album, one for my wallet and give the rest to them.

Scrapbook

I had a scrapebook for each of my children when they went to kindergarten. Every time they brought some artwork home i would stick it into the next available page and write the date on the top of the page. The kids decorated the first page and i put their handprints at the beginning of the year and then again at the end of the year.

Letter to my kids

Every so often I send a letter to my kids saying how much I love them and how glad I am that they are a part of our family. I leave it under their pillow or stick it on their bedroom door. Sometimes it is just a post-it-note. They are always so happy to receive one.

Watch your child sleep

Watch your child sleeping. It seems simple enough but you would be amazed how many of my friends don't do it. Take a look - they are just gorgeous, and so peaceful.
